Woods Edge Lavender Update - Building Back

So many of you have checked in on our lavender after we lost several shrubs last year. Thank you so much! We have some good news to report: this year our winter survival rate was much better!

We also added a brand-new variety this spring, Essense Purple. It comes from the "Proven Winners" line, so we have high hopes for its success.

My favorite variety that we grow so far is Folgate. It’s been pretty hardy throughout the weather variations. It produces medium size stems and is great addition to our culinary lavender blend and smells LOVELY!

We are also evaluating our Phenomenal lavender. It features a rich, strong scent that makes it perfect for beauty products, alongside gorgeous long stems. These shrubs were hit pretty hard last year, but because we love the quality, we plan on investing heavily in more of this variety next year.

Beyond the lavender, we are introducing a new addition to the field: Nepeta (aka catmint)! I love how much its appearance mimics lavender. We harvested the first bloom and dried it this summer, and it is a fantastic alternative choice. The bees absolutely adore it, and the purple flowers rebloom all season long, giving us a stunning view most of the summer! It is highly rated for crafts like wreath making, as well as herbal teas, so we will be testing out those projects soon.

Speaking of tea, we thought it would be fun to create a little personal tea garden! I originally imagined myself peacefully picking the leaves, brewing a fresh cup, and watching the sunrise... Ha! We never seem to have the actual time for that, do we? But we have been busy harvesting anyway, and I have high hopes for a cozy winter tea moment.

Here is a picture of our Anise Hyssop—and yes, it truly smells exactly like black licorice! We also planted Lemon Mint and Orange Mint, and I cannot wait to create some fun new flavor concoctions by blending these with our lavender. If you love gardening and tea, I highly encourage adding these varieties to your own backyard.

Where do we go from here? Right now, our primary focus is to keep building back our plots and see where the journey takes us. We are incredibly thankful to be able to fulfill our wholesale partners' orders this season. If we have any additional retail products available, we will be sure to keep you posted!

Christmas Tree Update

We continue to find that Christmas tree farming is an excercise in patience and diligence. Each year we do our best to set up the seedlings so that they can get establshed.

This year we had quite a bit of winter wind burn, but it does appear as if the many of the seedlings are going to make it! As always we could use more consistent rain, but somehow these little trees seem to be making it work!

So we continue to spend our time planting, mangaging the weeds and mowing in hopes they will eventually be the centerpiece of someone’s Christmas!!

We are so excited to gather with you again for our 8th Annual Christmas Workshop Season!

This year, we are offering three wonderful workshop projects: festive wreaths, adorable hanging gnomes, and beautiful porch pots.

Group leaders, please feel free to contact us anytime to reserve your special date! Around mid-October we will open up the schedule for non-group registration.

Since 2019, we have worked hard to keep our workshop pricing steady. However, to keep up with rising costs over the last few years, we are increasing our workshop registration by $15 per participant. This change ensures we can continue providing the high-quality experience you love—complete with fresh, fragrant boughs and plenty of fun embellishments!

Wreath/Gnome Season ($65) - November 10-30

Assembling and decorating your own wreath, in your own style, brings such a sense of satisfaction! And when you can do it surrounded by a bit of Christmas Magic all the better!! Check out some of our favorite wreath designs below!

I’m always amazed at how everyone’s wreaths designs are so different! This wreath was designed by my sister Carri!! I just love how it turned out, and it has become one of my top favorites!

This is another of my all-time favorite designs, inspired by my friend Maria. I just love the “bling” on one side, and then the openess on the other showcasing the beauty of the boughs. This “bling” side can be done so many different ways!! I just love it!

Porch Pot Season ($80) - December 5-17

Our porch pot workshops just fly by! Starting with building the pot using spruce tips and other boughs and then finishing by adding your own personalized decor. The experience is filled with the lights and scents of Christmas!

We are always trying to find a way to keep our porch pots fresh. This year for our porch pots we are adding a Sugar Pinecone as the main centerpiece.

The sugar pinecone is the longest conifer cone in the world, typically from the Pacific Northwest area.

We think it adds a beautiful structure to the pot and creates a fun centerpiece.
